Tony Curtis & Associates has a terrific opportunity for a highly motivated individual to join the Product Development Team for a well known, established brand. The Product Developer Technical Design role is responsible for all technical aspects of the client leather line, including the construction, testing, measurements, and tolerances, as well as communicating all the technical aspects of the garment directly to the factory via email communications and direct conversations.

The ideal candidate will have experience working with leather, a passion for fashion, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment handling many projects and timelines. You are a highly detailed-oriented, organized, and supportive team player who understands a small business requires an array of tasks to be completed within tight deadlines and you are willing to put full effort behind succeeding. You have demonstrated apparel product development or design experience and a strong working knowledge of fabrics, garment construction, fit and pattern development.


Key Responsibilities:

Create complete and detailed technical specifications for all new products, including grading measurement specs, construction details
Ensure all styles are tested for performance and physical characteristics
Manage efficiently pre-production and approval of materials (fabric, trim, labels, etc.), product construction, dimensions and fit, colours; coordinates with merchandising team to meet quality and timeline goals
Execute and maintain fit and quality consistency in all product categories.
Perform fit sessions with Merchandising on body forms and live models
Manage colour through use of a light booth to evaluate colour and colour consistency
Enter and edit product information to update specifications
Work closely with the team to implement, review, and troubleshoot manufacturing production issues as they arise
Collaborate with Sourcing team to advise best sample construction and finishes while maintaining design and functional integrity
Perform other related duties and assignments as required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Attributes:

Equivalent of University Degree/College Diploma in Textile & Apparel or similar training preferred; or completed product development internship with technical/ patternmaking emphasis
Pattern grading experience is an asset
2-5+ years’ apparel product development or design experience in outerwear
Strong working knowledge of fabrics, garment construction, fit and pattern development with understanding of body shapes and fit a must
Proficient in Microsoft Office software with knowledge in Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Photoshop an asset
Excellent written and verbal communication skills to communicate garment fit and construction techniques to both internal staff as well as offshore factories (India, China, Pakistan)
Highly organized, analytical, and detail-oriented professional
Strong technical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills
Ability to prioritize work and deliver results with excellent follow-through
Demonstrated work ethic with high level of personal integrity
Flexible and adaptable with a growth mindset and ability to receive and apply constructive feedback
Must be able to work both independently and collaboratively as a team member
