The Opportunity: Technical Designer
Tony Curtis & Associates has an immediate opening for the above position with one of Canada’s industry leaders in technology and sports apparel high quality brands. If you are action oriented and looking for a choice opportunity to impact the effectiveness of the full-cycle technical design, then we would love to hear from you.
In this role you will develop, audit, maintain product specifications and quality control for the brand. You will ensure the execution covering all categories for Sports and Golf related Apparel - Athletic Light Weight Performance Textiles (preferred), Knits, and Woven Men’s/Ladies Apparel for size and fit, from spec package development through production as determined by the Technical Design Manager.
Salary: $45 - $60K depending on experience
Location: Richmond Hill, Ontario
Responsibilities:
Development of Spec Packages
Coordinate information regarding styling and details with creative merchandisers/graphic coordinator
Photograph original samples needed for specification
Prepare clear technical drawings to interpret the styling details and construction
Evaluate design sketch, fabric, and trim compatibility
Review silhouette/proportion, labeling and trimmings.
Prepare fully detailed measurements and construction information for specification package- Communicate with vendors on specification package details
Communicate with Creative Merchandiser/Product Developers and make suggestions to resolve technical issues
Template and Specification Package
Maintain an up-to-date template for specification packaging.
Coordinate with product developer to initiate the specification package for vendors
Blocks and Fit
Develop blocks for the upcoming seasons new silhouettes
Monitor measurements in all categories to ensure fit consistency from style to style and season to season
Identify fit problems and recommend appropriate pattern corrections
Execute the brand direction in evaluating samples from competitors
Prepare Technical Sketch
Prepare technical sketch according to the design details by Creative Merchandiser
Set technical sketch library by product category
Product Approval
· Evaluate fit and workmanship for sample submission
File Maintenance
Organize and maintain files from clients
Update tracking sheets of the sample approval status
Project Management
Visit stores to evaluate product quality and compile a report
Execute projects to improve business performance with guidance from the Technical Manager
Other
· Manage the apparel calendar timelines to ensure all product deadlines are achieved
Required Skills
Pattern drafting skills
Knowledge of garment construction, production, and quality control– both domestic & import
Knowledge of fabric & yarn construction print, embroidery, appliqué finishes and techniques
Proficient in using Adobe Illustrator CS and Photoshop, Microsoft Excel and Outlook Express
Must be a team player
Excellent time management & project skills
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for both internal and external communication
Strong organizational skills and ability to multi-task
Must work well in a fast paced, deadline driven environment
Must be able to deliver quality work with a high degree of accuracy and consistency
Detail oriented with ability to work with minimal supervision
Flexible to work overtime when required
Must have degree or diploma in a Fashion program
2 + years of related industry experience is a requirement
Education:
· College diploma or bachelor’s degree in fashion design/development
